What is an Arachis and what happens when one
is pressed?

Well,
arachis is the scientific name for the peanut
so I suppose one would have peanut oil!

However, it is also a Greek word with the meaning
of 'seed.'  So we hope to be planting some seeds
here and 'pressing' them into the soil of our
readers' minds! (If you'll pardon a slightly clumsy
and forced metaphor.)

Our physical location is actually on a rural highway
known as
Peanut Road. This was the original
reason why we considered Arachis -- among
various other names -- for our publishing
endeavors. We used to call ourselves the Nihil
Crocodile Press. Arachis is an improvement, isn't
it?

Incidentally, Arachis is not to be confused with nor
pronounced like Arrakis, the planet in the novel
Dune.  Accent is on the first syllable, sort of like
Aramis of
The Three Musketeers.
